Ellie Hirshberg -
Physician at Strong
Memorial Hospital
Charity/Community Projects Selection:
Make a Wish, Alternatives for Battered Women.
Personal: Ellie and her
significant other John moved to Rochester for Ellie’s
Residency training in 1999.Their passions include skiing,
rock climbing and traveling. They currently live in the”
white coat ghetto” just across from Strong Hospital. John is
the out door manager for Snow Country and the man to talk to
about back packing and climbing gear.
Athletic
Portfolio/Accomplishments: Discouraged by the
lack of powder skiing available in Rochester :), Ellie began
participating in triathlons for a way to keep a balance and
harmony in her hectic schedule. A college varsity volleyball
and crew team member, daily workouts have always been a
given part of the day, but she was never much of a swimmer
or biker. Ellie began running for stress relief and
completed her first marathon in 1999. Ellie raised $4,500
for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by running a marathon
with Team in Training in 2001. Inspired by a family friend,
who completed the ironman 10 years ago, Ellie has always
been fascinated by and interested in participating in an
ironman.
She has participated in
four triathlons:
-
PennYan 2001 sprint
distance first in age group 30-34
-
Hamilin Beach 2001 survived
freezing water temperatures
-
Tupper Lake ˝ ironman 2002
-
Hamlin Beach 2002 third in
age group 30-34.
Training:
Training goals for the year include becoming a more
efficient swimmer, and biker, spend some serious time in the
bike saddle, and regain her running legs post knee injury
this past year. She usually squeezes in her workouts either
early morning or late evening. She gets much need advice and
workout plans from mooching off her fellow RAT’s already
planned and organized workouts.
Equipment:
Raleigh R600 road series bike
