How Does Tri-ing
Harder Work
In addition to
raising awareness of charitable and community activities,
the athlete's efforts will benefit the chosen causes.
All of the proceeds will go directly into the
hands of the designated charities/community projects.
All pledges
and sponsors will be asked to write checks directly to the
organization in the name of the athlete. We will ask
sponsors and the charities to audit our pledging efforts at
regular intervals. No money will be collected by the athletes.
There are four
ways for this project to raise money for the community:
-
Corporate sponsors:
We believe we have a unique value proposition for business
and local for-profit organizations. Our unique
fundraising effort is gaining the attention of many local
community members and decision-makers. Over the next
few months, many activities and training miles will put your
company's name front and center as these athletes prepare
for Lake Placid. Corporate sponsors can sponsor an
athlete or the entire program. Please see the
sponsor section for more
information.
-
Individual contributors and
community groups / organizations: Friends,
co-workers, family members and neighbors can pledge an amount for
each mile/meter athletes cover during their training between
now and the day after the Ironman on July 27, 2003.
See example below. Contributors
can also specify a set dollar amount. Even a $5 pledge
is welcomed and appreciated.
-
Online Store: Every
purchase originating from our online store will pay
commissions directly back into the pool of monies.
Simply go to the online store, click on the link of your
favorite site and shop! Its that simply.
Depending on the site, commissions range from 1-5% of your
purchase. If you'd like to suggest other sites, please
contact
Bob Tubbs.
-
Janus
Charity Challenge Fund: Janus has team up with
the Ironman event organizers to inspire Ironman participants
to leverage their experience to support their local
community. This challenge was the inspiration for this
web site. If we succeed in our fundraising efforts,
this could potentially add an additional $10,000 or more
into the funds raised. For the top three fundraisers, Janus
donates an additional $10,000 (1st place), $5,000 (2nd
place), $3,000 (3rd place.)
Example:
Athlete
average weekly training schedule:
Swim (5 miles), Bike (60 miles), Run (35 miles) = 100 miles
trained
Pledge:
$.05/mile
Weeks until
Lake Placid (July 27, 2003): 30
Formula:
100 miles * $.05 * 30 weeks = $150.00 total pledge
Total
Pledge: $150.00 due by August 1, 2003.
