On the road to
the 2003 Lake Placid Ironman - July 27, 2003!
After years of
watching those hardy Ironman participants with awe and admiration,
the dream of actually doing an Ironman Triathlon is finally being
realized. Veterans and first-timers triathletes have joined
together to turn their training miles into contributions benefiting
charities and community projects. Read on to see how you can
contribute to their dream while helping your community at the same
time!
This site chronicles the training, equipment,
techniques, psychology and thoughts of both seasoned and first-time Ironman participants from upstate New York as they prepare for the
2003 Lake Placid Ironman next July. If you've ever wondered if
you could ever participate in an Ironman, this web site will help
you find that person inside who believes that nothing is impossible.
A new feature of the
site is to connect under-staffed charities with the recently
out-of-work individuals for mutually beneficial results. Those
volunteers will help raise awareness and sponsorship of this
community wide effort.
From here, you can
actively participate in their preparation! How? By
sponsoring an athlete. Corporations can sponsor the entire
initiative, small businesses can select one or more athletes,
friends and family members can pledge at flat rate or on a per mile trained
basis. Who wins? Local charities, sponsoring partners
and the community...everyone. And your donation is tax
deductible.
There are many people
from the upstate New York area registered for Lake Placid. Their
backgrounds and experiences are varied but they share a passion for
life and a common goal...compete in the Lake Placid IRONMAN.
Through this site, you will have a first hand view of their
experience, training, challenges and achievements. This is
your chance to know these athletes and see what makes them tick.
In addition to the
personal side of triathlons, we will use this site to develop and
support the business side of our passion through sponsors and
contributors. The
Janus Charity Challenge
is a program designed to encourage Ironman athletes to use Ironman
events as a unique platform for raising financial support for
charity, scholarships and community. For the top three
fundraisers, Janus donates an additional $10,000 (1st place), $5,000
(2nd place), $3,000 (3rd place.) Our goal is to be an Ironman
finisher next July but take first place in our fundraising efforts.
